If you intend to travel within France, and perhaps between London & Paris, I strongly recommend to consider using the train (TGV & Eurostar).

Unless you want to explore the countryside and little villages, taking the train is an affordable, and extremely practical way to travel. It is even better than the plane since the boarding takes less than 30 minutes and the trains stop right in the center of towns.

Check this website for more info.

Last night on France 2 channel, the village of Saint-Guilhem-Le-Désert in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of the South of France was elected "le village préféré des Français" (French people's favorite village).

Check the village's website for more information.

Of course, there are many other beautiful villages of France. See what other villages were in competition (in French).
