For those of you who already have a good hear for French and want to approach the culture as it is experienced today by French people, I highly recommend the radio program France Culture.

Another high quality source of information for the culture and the arts is the Franco-German TV network Arte.

'Bienvenue chez les ch’tis' is a 2008 French comedy, to date the highest grossing film in France. The film tells the story of a director of an agency of La Poste in the south of France who is transferred to the town of Bergues in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region; there, he discovers a new, unsuspected corner of France often thought as dreary.

Le Ch'ti is a language closely related to French which is commonly know as 'Picard' and spoken in the very North of France (the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy regions). It is one of the langues d'oïl that belong to the larger Gallo-Romance group of languages.

Here is the trailer for 'Bienvenue chez les ch’tis'.
