How are you ?

Let’s break down the phrases Τι κάνεις; and Τι κάνετε;.

Τι is a question word meaning how or what, κάνεις [KA-nis] (second person singular) and κάνετε [KA-ne-te] (second person plural) are forms of the verb κάνω [KA-no] which means to do. That means that you can use Τι κάνετε; not only in a formal environment, but also when you want to ask more than one person (that’s why on the right column in the table above you see formal/plural). For now, it’s fine to just memorize these phrases as set expressions and not worry too much about how each individual part of the sentence works. Everything will come together later on once you’ve learned how to conjugate verbs.
