Take It Further: Age and Greetings
One of the most important factors in greeting others in Vietnam is age. People typically will estimate your age and gauge whether they are older/younger than you in order to address you directly. However, during the conversation they may also ask you for your age when they are not completely sure. For English speakers, this question might be too personal, but for Vietnamese people, it is just a way to figure out how to address someone correctly.
