Expressing one’s nationality

You saw above that you can say where you are from by saying Tôi đến từ … Another way to express one’s nationality is using là plus a noun phrase, as shown below:

Tôi là người Mỹ.
(lit., I be person America)
I am American.

Tôi là người Việt Nam.
(lit., I be person Vietnam)
I am Vietnamese.

These answer the question:

Anh là người nước nào?
(lit., You be person country which)
What is your nationality?
