US Movie Titles in German
  • Heike May 2012
Following up on a recent blog posting by my Spanish colleague I am inspired to start a discussion and hopefully listing of funny deviations when a US movie title is translated (or better: adapted) into German - here are some for starters at the top of my head:

"Once Upon A Time in the West" became "Spiel mir das Lied vom Tod" (Play me the song of Death - if you've seen the movie you know what that refers to :-)

"From here to Eternity" became "Verdammt in alle Ewigkeit" (Damned into all eternity)

    other classics were translated literally:

"The Man who shot Liberty Valance" became "Der Mann, der Liberty Valance erschoß" - just sounds funny but is the exact translation.

"High Noon" became "Zwölf Uhr Mittags"  - hey, that's Essential LL German!!

Any movie title you caught in German or are curious to know how they were translated?
